Trend ALERT
Lace isn’t just for lingerie anymore
I know summer is over, but sometimes you just need a feel-good movie — or at least one that pretends to be. I watched The Map That Leads to You the other night, and in between the romance and the travel scenes, there was a moment that caught my attention: the two characters are walking along the beach, and Heather (played by Madelyn Cline) is wearing the simplest outfit.
An oversized yellow t-shirt with a slip of lace peeking out from underneath. It wasn't styled like a big fashion moment, but that's what made it so good. It felt effortless, thrown on, almost accidental — and yet it completely worked.

The movie itself follows two people on a journey across Europe, with all the expected detours: love, loss, long conversations in train stations. But that beach scene stayed with me more than the storyline. There was something about the contrast between the slouchy tee and the delicate lace that looked really nice. Not polished, not overthought — just easy.

The pinterest proof
Of course, I went straight to Pinterest, and sure enough, lace under oversized layers is everywhere. Lace trim poking out from under sweaters, lace slips paired with denim, lace camis tucked under cardigans. Lace can be intimidating when it's worn head-to-toe, but when it's just peeking out, it softens everything, it adds texture without demanding attention.

How to style lace layers
Take the classic combination: a chunky knit sweater with lace slipping out at the hem. It instantly feels more styled, even if you're just in jeans and boots. Or the oversized t-shirt and lace mini — like in the film — which turns a simple beach walk outfit into something worth remembering. Even pairing lace under a blazer works; the softness against structured tailoring makes the whole look more balanced.

It's proof that lace doesn't have to be reserved for special occasions
It can live in casual clothes, layered in ways that make it part of everyday dressing. That's what makes the idea exciting. It isn't about buying a new wardrobe, it's about rethinking what's already there. Slip a lace cami under a cardigan, layer a lace-trimmed skirt under an oversized shirt, let lace peek out from the edges of your favorite basics. It's a detail that turns "just clothes" into an outfit.

My favorite trend right now is lace under sweaters
The bottom line? My favorite trend right now is lace under sweaters — and honestly, it should be yours too.
Spoiler: The Map That Leads to You is not a feel-good movie (because of you-know-what), but at least the outfits gave me something to hold onto.
